Growing up in Minneapolis, Genevieve Gorder spent weekends renovating Victorian homes with her family. She never imagined she could turn that into a career, but through a graphic design course in college, she found her calling. After getting her BFA at the School of Visual Arts, Genevieve worked as a designer on MTV, before stepping in front of the camera as the designer on TLC’s home improvement show, “Trading Spaces.” Now taping the third season of a spin-off show, “Town Haul,” in which she redesigns an entire town, she is also writing a book and opening a Manhattan store with her own lines of window coverings, textiles and bedding. Genevieve credits her strong Midwestern upbringing for her success. “You’ve got to keep your feet on the ground and your head screwed on straight,” she says, “And you’ve got to be really good to people. If you remember that simple little rule, there’s no stopping you.”
