“I became a widow at the young age of 34 and that’s something that no one is prepared for. I believe that, even years later, it both weakens me and gives me strength.”
Can you tell us about one of the biggest challenges in your life that you think helped you become the person you are today?
I became a widow at the young age of 34 and that’s something that no one is prepared for. I believe that, even years later, it both weakens me and gives me strength.
Do today’s young people face a bigger challenge than you did?
Well, I think that gathering information via technology makes it so much easier now. Knowledge is power, and today that happens with the click of a button. However, this also creates a never-ending cycle of possibilities, which can–in its own way–be daunting.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t take no for an answer.
If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I’d just do cocktails with Lucille Ball, Phyllis Diller, Carol Burnett, Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, and Melissa McCarthy.
What is your favorite book (fiction or nonfiction)?
The White Album by Joan Didion: “We tell ourselves stories in order to live.”
