What do you think of the media’s portrayal of women?

It depends on the woman. I think women, more than men, are scrutinized and judged by the media and the public regardless of their accomplishments. I think it is possible to find positive, successful role models, but you really do have to weed out a lot of shallow, sexy, glamorized fluff to find it.

Do you feel the extreme left and right wings of U.S. politics are destroying the United States? Or just healthy debate?

I think extremism in any form is dangerous. In politics, I believe a lot of people are feeling left out and without a voice because they do not identify with the far right or far left.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

The best piece of advice…Take the high road. Believe me, it is not always easy, but it will always get you to a better place.

Do today’s young people face a bigger challenge than you did?

I think, for many generations, it was believed…if you go to college and work hard you will have a good job in the end. I think many young adults today are finding that is not true. The opportunities and jobs are just not there. I strongly believe we need to invest in our education system, starting at the pre-k level, to help rebuild our country on a domestic and global level.
