2005 Honoree

Joi Gordon

CEO, Dress for Success

Written by Iris Blasi

As the CEO of Dress for Success, Joi Gordon relishes her role in empowering other women. The organization is perhaps best known for providing suits for low-income women going on job interviews, but the next step is keeping women in that world once they get there. Dress for Success provides workshops, mentoring programs and career coaching to achieve that end. After earning her law degree from the Oklahoma College of Law, Joi returned to her birthplace, New York City, to work in the Bronx County District Attorney’s office. There, she often ran across cases of domestic abuse, but didn’t have much hands-on involvement until she entered the nonprofit world. Her commitment to women’s issues is unwavering and she encourages others to join her in her mission.

Joi says, “We, as women, really need to continue what we do best, which is helping other people.”
